Advanced Lab Testing Is What Makes Blue Sky MD So Effective

We Don't Guess. We Measure.

Most programs start with a prescription. We start with your blood work.

Before we recommend a hormone or weight loss protocol here at Blue Sky MD, we run a comprehensive metabolic and hormone panel. A physician will read it in the context of your symptoms, history, and goals before recommending the best approach.

It’s the difference between being handed a medication and being given an explanation. This is where real, lasting change begins.

Why most testing misses what's actually wrong

"Your labs are normal" isn't the same as "you're fine."

Most people have had blood work before and been told everything looks normal, even while they feel exhausted, foggy, and stuck.

Why? Standard lab ranges were built to flag disease, not to define where you feel and function your best. A result can sit inside the “normal” range for years while your metabolism, thyroid, or hormones quietly drift in the wrong direction.

The distinction we live by: Normal isn't optimal.
A number that isn't yet abnormal can still be the reason you feel the way you do. Our job is to catch those signals early — often years before a standard panel would ever raise a flag.

There's usually a measurable reason you feel off. The first step is looking properly.
What makes our testing "advanced"

Advanced isn't just more tests. It's the right tests, read the right way.

"Advanced" at Blue Sky MD means four things working together:
01
We test beyond the standard panel.
A typical physical checks a handful of markers. We run a comprehensive panel across your metabolism, thyroid, hormones, and the foundational nutrients that quietly control how the rest of the system runs. The answer is usually in the markers most panels skip.
e.g., fasting insulin and leptin, not just glucose; Free T3 and TPO antibodies, not just TSH; ApoB, not just LDL.
02
We measure metabolism directly. We don't estimate it.
For weight loss patients, we directly measure your resting metabolic rate instead of guessing it from a formula. It's the difference between knowing how your body actually burns energy and assuming.
03
We interpret against optimal, not just "normal."
For many markers we hold a tighter, evidence-informed target than the standard lab range. The goal is for you to feel and function at your best, not merely to avoid a diagnosis.
04
A physician reads your results.
Your labs aren't scored by an algorithm and emailed to you. A Blue Sky MD provider connects the markers to each other and to your symptoms. No single number tells the whole story.
What makes our testing "advanced"

Testing is the start to a real medical process,
not the endpoint.

We don't sell lab tests. We use them to build a plan that's actually yours. Here's how the system works, start to finish.
1
Health Assessment
We encourage patients to start with a short, free assessment of your symptoms, history, and goals. This helps us understand where you're coming from and pair you with the right care. Take the Health Assessment
2
Comprehensive Labs
We measure. This can include a full metabolic test (primarily for weight loss patients), and an advanced hormone panel to see what's happening under the surface. See What We Test
3
Physician Interpretation
A provider sits down with you and explains what your results mean. We cover in plain english why you've been feeling off or less than your optimal self.
4
Your Personalized Plan
We build a care plan from your results and tailored to your biology: nutrition, hormone support, and medication when appropriate. We never use a one-size-fits-all protocol.
5
Ongoing Optimization
As your care progresses, we retest, track your trends, and fine-tune. Your body changes, and your plan should too.
What we measure, at a glance

A complete picture across five connected systems.

Your energy, weight, mood, sleep, and drive aren't controlled by one number. They're the output of several systems working together. That's why we measure across all of them and read them as one connected story.
Metabolic & Blood Sugar
How your body stores and burns energy.
Fasting insulin, glucose, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, leptin, ApoB.
Thyroid
Your metabolic thermostat.
TSH, Free T4, Free T3, TPO antibodies.
Adrenal & Foundational
Stress, recovery, and the nutrients that run everything.
DHEA-S, vitamin D, ferritin.
Men's Hormones
Strength, drive, and cardiometabolic health.
Total & free testosterone, estradiol, LH, SHBG, and more.
Women's Hormones
Mood, metabolism, and well-being.
Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, FSH, LH, SHBG.
Every marker, explained.

Normal vs. optimal & why the range matters

The same result can mean two very different things.

Consider fasting insulin. A standard panel often doesn’t even check it, and when it does, “normal” can run to 25. But insulin resistance, the earliest domino in most metabolic problems, is quietly underway long before that. We look for an optimal range instead, because catching the drift early is what makes it reversible. This is what “advanced” really means: not just measuring more, but knowing where the line between surviving and thriving actually sits, and reading your numbers against it.
Marker
Typical "normal" (screens for disease)
Blue Sky MD optimal (where you feel best)
Fasting insulin
< 25 µIU/mL
4–8 µIU/mL
Free T3
2.3–4.2 pg/mL
3.0–4.4 pg/mL
Vitamin D
> 30 ng/mL
40–60 ng/mL
Triglycerides
< 150 mg/dL
< 100 mg/dL
ApoB
< 100–130 mg/dL
< 80 mg/dL (lower if higher risk)

Your labs, explained by a physician

The turning point isn't the blood draw. It's the conversation about it.

Getting tested is easy. Understanding what it means is where most care falls short, and where ours begins. After your labs come back, you sit down with a Blue Sky MD provider who connects the dots in plain language: why the fatigue set in, why the weight changed, why your sleep or drive shifted, and what we can actually do about it.

For most of our patients, this is the moment everything starts to make sense. You aren’t imagining your symptoms, and it’s not just aging. There is a real, measurable reason you feel this way.

"For the first time, someone actually explained what was happening to me, and that it could be treated."
Is this kind of testing for you?

This approach is built for people who want answers & a real strategy to fix it.

Cost & insurance

Worried advanced testing means a huge out-of-pocket bill? You may be surprised.

Because Blue Sky MD is a physician-led medical practice, not a cash-only testing service, many visits and lab tests may be billed through your insurance, depending on your plan, just like any other medical care. And you won't have to navigate it alone: we help you understand what your plan covers before you commit.
Don't let an assumption about cost stop you from finding out what's going on. The Health Assessment is free.

Frequently asked questions

Questions patients ask about our testing.

What's included in Blue Sky MD's lab panel?
A comprehensive set of markers across five systems — metabolic and blood sugar, thyroid, hormones, and foundational nutrients — plus a directly measured resting metabolic rate where available. See the full list on our What We Test page. Your provider may add or adjust markers based on your history.
Two ways. First, breadth: we test markers a standard physical usually skips (like fasting insulin, leptin, Free T3, and ApoB). Second, interpretation: we read your results against optimal ranges — where you feel and function best — not just the ranges that screen for disease.
Your testing is ordered and overseen by a Blue Sky MD provider as part of your care. We'll tell you exactly how to prepare (including any fasting) when we schedule your labs.
Many visits and labs may be billed through your insurance depending on your plan; we'll help verify your benefits. Affordable self-pay and HSA/FSA options are available. The Health Assessment is free.
Our testing is designed to be interpreted by a physician and turned into a plan — that's what makes it valuable. The best first step is the free Health Assessment, and your provider will guide you from there.
You review them with a provider who explains what they mean and builds a personalized plan. We also retest over time to track your progress.
Understanding first. Treatment second.

It all starts with one honest look at what's really going on.

You don't have to keep guessing, and you don't have to settle for "it's just age." The first step is measuring, and then having a physician explain what it means. Take the free, ~3-minute Health Assessment to find the right path for you.
