Approximately 80% of women experience hormonal imbalances…and many don’t even realize it.

From metabolism to heart rate, sleep cycles, reproductive cycles, body temperature, and mood, hormones play an important role in the body as “messengers” that trigger essential functions.

Because of this, hormonal imbalances in women can manifest in different ways, making it difficult to identify. Onset can occur as a result of aging, menopause, lifestyle, disease, and environmental factors. Hormone replacement therapy for women can help you restore your balance.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HORMONAL IMBALANCE

Recognizing the signs of hormonal imbalance is the first step to bringing your body back into harmony. Most women begin to experience hormonal changes around menopause. Though this can be different for everyone, around age 50 women often experience a decrease in the amounts of estrogen and progesterone their body produces.

While the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance can differ, the most common signs include:

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women can address a variety of these symptoms and get your hormones back in tune.

HOW HRT FOR WOMEN WORKS: DELIVERING THE RIGHT METHOD

Every body is different. Our HRT doctors in North Carolina take a personalized approach to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for women.

Our priority is to offer you the best solutions for your specific body and goals. This may require using more traditional hormone therapy options such as pills, patches, creams, and injections, or more modern and effective solutions like hormone pellet therapy.

HORMONE PELLETS

Here at Blue Sky MD, we specialize in bioidentical hormone pellet therapy (BHRT) for women. We’ve found that pellets offer the best relief with the least side effects. Data also supports that hormone replacement therapy with pellet implants is the most effective and the most bio-identical method to deliver hormones in both men and women.

Female hormone pellet therapy ensures a consistent dosage over time—no more daily oral tablets or topicals.

TOPICALS

Topical hormone replacement therapy for women is an excellent option for those seeking effective and convenient management of hormonal imbalances or menopausal symptoms. Topical HRT involves applying creams, gels, or patches directly to the skin, allowing for precise and targeted delivery of hormones.

This means you can ensure that the hormones are absorbed where they are needed most. They are a gentler and often better-tolerated option than pills while still providing flexible and convenient dosing.

PILLS

We also offer more traditional forms of HRT for women like pills are taken orally, making them more convenient and less invasive than injections or pellets. This may be preferred by individuals who dislike needles.

Hormone pills are designed to provide a steady release of hormones throughout the day, mimicking the body’s natural hormone production. They are easier to transport and administer, making them a good option for individuals who travel frequently.

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE PELLETS: THE NATURAL, EFFECTIVE SOLUTION

Bioidentical hormones are identical in molecular structure to human hormones, which means your body effectively cannot tell the difference. Plus, the pellet delivery method we use in at Blue Sky MD ensures a consistent dosage over time.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to hormone replacement therapy for women. Our doctors tailor your treatment plan to your needs and goals while consistently monitoring for areas of improvement. This is the most comprehensive, personalized menopause treatment available.

STEPS TO BEGIN BHRT

Once every several months, we painlessly insert the pellet under the skin, and over time, the pellet consistently and evenly releases small doses of hormones.

We find that even patients who have failed to get results with other types of hormone replacement therapy see a high level of success with this bioidentical hormone replacement therapy method.

STEP 1: KNOW YOUR NUMBERS

The first step in the hormone therapy process is to get some blood work done so we may analyze your current hormone levels. This helps us understand your symptoms and formulate your hormone prescription dosage.

STEP 2: BEGIN TREATMENTS

Once we’ve established your baseline hormone levels, we can begin treatments with the appropriate delivery method.

If pellets are your delivery method, your Blue Sky MD providers will perform a quick procedure to insert the pellet under the skin.

STEP 3: MAINTENANCE PHASE

You’ll meet with your Blue Sky MD provider periodically to get more bloodwork done, assess hormone levels, and verify symptoms are improving. If there is room for improvement, our providers can make adjustments to your treatment.

Patients receiving pellet therapy will need a new pellet inserted every 3-6 months.

During menopause, women may experience insomnia, low energy, anxiety and depression, mood swings, sudden weight gain, and low libido.

As if these frustrating symptoms weren’t bad enough, imbalanced hormones in women may increase the risk of osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and many other diseases and conditions.

Hormone therapy helps reduce these symptoms and protect our bodies against the more serious side effects of aging.

Studies have shown the risk of breast cancer is associated with elevated levels of endogenous estrogen. Androgens (like testosterone) have been shown to counteract the negative effects caused by excess estrogen on mammary (breast) tissue. Incidentally, women with breast cancer have been shown to have significantly lower levels of testosterone in the body.

Long-term benefits of HRT for women also include reduced risk for different types of cancers and strengthened bones and immune systems.

There are several types of hormone therapy available. The type prescribed by a physician will depend on a patient’s symptoms and particular needs. Some common types of hormone therapy include:

  1. Estrogen Therapy

This is the most commonly prescribed type of HT and is used to relieve symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. It can be taken in the form of pills, patches, gels, or creams.

  1. Progestin Therapy

This type of therapy is often prescribed in combination with estrogen therapy. Progestin is a synthetic form of progesterone, a hormone that helps balance the effects of estrogen.

  1. Testosterone Therapy

This type of therapy is typically prescribed for men who have low levels of testosterone, a condition known as hypogonadism. Testosterone therapy can be administered in the form of gels, patches, or injections.

  1. Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapy

This type of therapy is used to treat low thyroid hormone levels, a condition known as hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormone replacement therapy can be taken in the form of pills.

  1. Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

This type of therapy uses hormones that are chemically identical to those naturally produced by the body. They are usually customized to the individual patient based on their hormone levels and symptoms.
