By Dr. David LaMond, Medical Director of Blue Sky MD
At Blue Sky MD, we believe true wellness is more than symptom management and that it’s about giving your body the tools to heal, rebuild, and perform at its best.
One of the most powerful ways we do this is through peptide therapy.
What is peptide therapy?
Peptides are natural compounds that help your body regenerate tissue, balance hormones, and optimize metabolism. Through various delivery methods like subcutaneous injections or oral supplementation, we can help administer carefully dosed and ultra-specific peptides to achieve a range of different positive health outcomes.
Today, we’ll explore three of our most requested peptides (aside from GLP-1 weight loss medications, which are also peptide hormones):
- BPC-157 for tissue and gut repair
- CJC-1295 with Ipamorelin for natural growth-hormone support
- Tesamorelin for targeted visceral fat reduction and metabolic health
1. BPC-157: The “Body Protective Compound”
What it is:
BPC-157 is a peptide originally isolated from the stomach that plays a key role in the body’s healing processes. It helps regenerate muscle, tendon, ligament, joint, and even nerve tissue, while also soothing inflammation in the gut.
BPC-157 is used at Blue Sky MD for:
- Tendon or ligament injuries
- Muscle strains and joint inflammation
- Post-surgical recovery
- Gut inflammation or “leaky gut” symptoms
- Nerve healing and peripheral neuropathy
- Enhancing joint resilience during testosterone therapy
How it’s taken:
Most patients use small subcutaneous injections near the injury site or in the abdomen.
For gut healing, oral capsules or solutions may be used instead.
Typical starting dose
250 to 500 mcg 5 days per week for 4 weeks, then reduce to 250 mcg 5 days a week for 2–4 weeks.
For gut health
500–1000 mcg daily for 4–8 weeks, often combined with L-glutamine, probiotics, and an anti-inflammatory diet
Expected results
Within a few weeks, most patients notice improved joint comfort, faster recovery, and reduced inflammation. For digestive applications, benefits often include less bloating, more energy, and improved stool consistency.
Safety note
We avoid BPC-157 in patients with active cancer or uncontrolled autoimmune disease, as it can promote blood-vessel formation.
2. CJC-1295 with Ipamorelin — Restoring Natural Growth Hormone Balance
What it does
This peptide combination helps the body naturally release its own growth hormone (GH) in short, healthy pulses. It’s great at supporting fat metabolism, lean muscle growth, recovery, energy, and sleep.
Used at Blue Sky MD for
- Weight loss and visceral fat reduction
- Muscle preservation and performance
- Improved sleep and recovery
- Anti-aging and cognitive enhancement
- Metabolic health and hormone optimization
How it works
CJC-1295 acts as a GHRH analog, stimulating GH release from the pituitary, while Ipamorelin serves as a GH-releasing peptide, amplifying the effect for a natural, physiologic rise in IGF-1.
Protocol overview
Standard dose
100–200 mcg of each peptide, injected once or twice daily (preferably at bedtime)
Cycle
8–12 weeks on, followed by 2–4 weeks off or continuous use with monitoring
Monitoring
IGF-1, fasting glucose, and lipids every 8–12 weeks
Typical results
Patients often notice improved sleep, better recovery from exercise, increased lean mass, and more stable energy within 4–8 weeks. Over time, body composition changes, resulting in less abdominal fat, firmer muscle tone, and a refreshed overall sense of vitality.
Side effects
Mild hunger, water retention, or temporary hand tingling may occur. As with all peptides, use is avoided in active cancer, pregnancy, or uncontrolled diabetes.
3. Tesamorelin — Targeted Fat Loss & Metabolic Support
What it does:
Tesamorelin is an FDA-approved GHRH analog that powerfully stimulates GH and IGF-1 release, making it especially effective for reducing visceral abdominal fat and improving insulin sensitivity.
Why it’s unique
Unlike traditional “fat burners,” Tesamorelin directly targets deep belly fat (VAT) — the metabolically active fat linked to diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and hormonal decline.
Protocol overview:
Dose
1 mg (0.4 mL of a 2.5 mg/mL solution) injected nightly before bed
Cycle
12–16 weeks on, then optional 4-week break
Monitoring
IGF-1, fasting insulin, HbA1c, and lipid panel
Clinical benefits:
- Reduces stubborn visceral fat
- Improves insulin sensitivity and lipid balance
- Preserves muscle during weight loss
- Enhances sleep and recovery
Best candidates
Tesamorelin is ideal for patients with abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, or metabolic syndrome, while CJC-1295/Ipamorelin may be preferred for performance and longevity goals.
Monitoring and Optimization at Blue Sky MD
Before beginning peptide therapy, we perform a comprehensive metabolic panel, hormone testing, and ideally an IGF-1 measurement to tailor your protocol safely.
We generally target:
- IGF-1 range: 250–350 ng/mL for most adults
- Higher (300–400 ng/mL) for muscle preservation and performance, if appropriate
- Avoid levels above 400–450 ng/mL to reduce long-term risk
Our clinical team tracks progress every 8–12 weeks and adjusts dosing to ensure optimal results.
Lifestyle Synergy
Peptides are most effective when paired with the right lifestyle strategies:
- High-protein, low-glycemic diet
- Strength training at least 3 times per week
- 7–8 hours of quality sleep nightly
- Stress management and hydration
These habits amplify peptide effects on metabolism, energy, and recovery — helping you achieve sustainable, long-term change.
