Hormone therapy can sound a little scary. Most people picture constant injections and severe mood swings. However, hormone therapy has changed quite a bit and is better than ever. Introducing: Pellets! In this two part blog series, we hope to educate and give you all the information necessary to understand pellets, and why it is a critical part of Blue Sky MD’s treatment plan.
What are Pellets?
Pellets are made up of either estradiol or testosterone, which can be used in hormone therapy for both men and women. The hormones are pressed into very small cylinders, slightly larger than a grain of rice.
Why Pellets?
Pellets deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones for 3-4 months in women and 4-5 months in men. No more daily or weekly injections, and those using pellets avoid the fluctuations, or ups and downs, of hormone stress levels seen with every other method of delivery. Pellets also do not increase the risk of blood clots like conventional or synthetic hormone replacement therapy.
In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be superior for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, restoration of sleep patterns, and improvement in sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance.
Why Haven’t I Heard About Pellets?
Patents are not patented and have not been well marketed in the United States. They are frequently used in Europe and Australia where pharmaceutical companies produce pellets, and most of our research has come from those areas. Pellets were frequently used in the United States from about 1940 through the late 70s when oral patented estrogens were marketed to the public. Today in the United States, Blue Sky MD specializes in pellet Hormone Replacement Therapy.
